VTIS & Port Configuration- Port Configuration

Customized configuration of a port is a very cost effective and viable tool for

  • Training in Pilotage Operations
  • Training for Berthing and Mooring Masters
  • Training for Tug Operators of the Port
  • Training in Crisis Management
  • Contingency and Emergency Planning
ARI has successfully built and installed a highly realistic and working simulator  at one of the leading Gas Tanker Port on West Coast of India. The simulator build on ARI’s proprietary software platforms utilizes a bank of computers, state-of-the-art graphics cards and multiple high resolution projectors and can be further developed to simulate different types of vessels, ports and harbors around the world.  We undertake to create digital file environment like creating complete infrastructure for the Ports which includes creation of the topographic and oceanographic environment of the port like approach channels, depth contours, basin, breakwaters, navigational aids, berths, cargo handling equipment and comprehensive list of ancillary features to the minutest detail. Environmental, Weather, Tidal and Vessel traffic Conditions are also modeled to replicate the actual scenario to create the training environment which is “Real Life Like”. Simulator models replicating Ship Handling characteristics of various ships and handling of tugs, handling properties of mooring ropes and anchors are incorporated in this file environment to create a total training solution.

240 degree or 360 degree field of vision display backed up by unmatched visualization and representation creates a total immersive  environment to make the whole learning experience very life like and effective. Unique capability of the display is that apart from view from the center of the bridge, trainees can switch to view from the port or starboard wings.

  Main Components

One Full Mission Ship Handling Simulator with 360 degree display including all the navigational equipment and controls, One or more Tug Master Simulator with 120 degree display, Instructor station.

  Instructor Station Features

Instructor station has full control over all the operating environment and has the capabilities to inject faults and conditions in exercise to provide training in various normal and emergency situations. Instructor has capability to devise an exercise to plan Berthing, unberthing and maneuvering operations carried out in varying conditions of visibility, wind force, tide and current. Some varying factors are:

  • Strong on-shore and off-shore winds
  • Strong adverse currents
  • Day, nights, dusk and dawn situations
  • Low visibility approach and departure.
  • Combination of varying meteorological and oceanographic conditions.
  • Topographical and Hydrographical constraints imposed by the specific maneuvering and berthing location.
  • To reinforce and improve pilot / tug handler response to emergency conditions, faults and breakdowns like  Vessel engine failure, Vessel steering failure, Tug failure and sudden rise in wind speed can be introduced.
These capabilities of Instructor stations make Port Configuration Simulator a very comprehensive training and testing tool.
